We are drops of water separated by individuality. When one attains liberation, individuality become a shadow, and we become part of the Godliness of the ocean.
In that Godliness, there is no racism, no religious differences, no nationalism nor hatred; that ocean is filed with love only.
With every breath we take, our mind keeps on the struggle to safeguard the ego which binds us to the reality of the world projected by the mind. In that reality, ones existence is independent of other beings; we feel that we are separate from the others, we become self-centered, and climb up the ladder of success while stepping on the weak and poor.
The ego keeps us away from godliness, and clings to atheistic and ignorant science– in order to describe the happenings in the universe. The ego tries to separate science from spirituality, although, the destination of both is to find the truth behind our existence.
When the universe does not revolve around the wishes of the ego, the ego gets hurt, and the person suffers. It is the ego, which creates a world of independence from the spiritual dimension in us. It is the ego, that denies the spiritual element that binds us and makes us who we are.
Lust, anger, greed, jealousy, and hatred are the creations of the mind. The mind is from the physical brain. When the brain is dead, the ego is no more, the astral or subtle body remains until rebirth. Consciousness is always there, in all the stages of our manifestation, either in the spiritual, or material. The mind is needed for survival in the material dimension. However, through survival it accumulates the dirt and negativity around us. The goal of spirituality is to cleanse the mind.
In western Abrahamic religions, the negative doings of the ego is often referred to as ‘Satan’. The mis-happening in the world are blamed to the Satan. And the goal of such religions is to seek the protection of god, through good deeds, for the protection of Satan. These religions revolve around the ‘reward for heaven’ and the fear from hell’. One also accumulate points by inviting people from other religions groups to these religions which claim to be the Saviour.
However, the real Satan is in the mind.
In the east, Dharmic religions have been well aware of the ego, and the major theme of the Vedic scriptures has always been to condition the mind, and eventually kill the ego.
The mind cannot be conditioned through knowledge only. Knowledge conditions the mind to some level, but does not have the ability to kill the ego. Therefore, the main methodology in the Vedic scripture for the science of self-realization has been meditation. Meditation has been practised well over 5000 years. Excavations in the Indus valley civilisation has shown ancient stone figures in meditative postures.
There is no external Satan who makes us do bad and be mean. It is all in the mind. In order to be free from suffering, one has to go through the required conditioning. The first step is knowledge and deep devotion.
One has to surrender the mind to God. Meditation is about surrendering the mind to the supreme being, and becoming part of the supreme being.
When the mind is surrendered, and the ego is eventually killed, a new person is born who is one with the ocean of Samadhi. This is total freedom. Freedom from the mind and ego. And this is our natural state.
